Supplémentation en Omega 3 chez les autistic children: a double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled
premise: more and more evidence suggests that deficiencies in Omega 3 can contribute to neurodévellopementaux disorders of childhood.
Method:
A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study lasting six weeks was made to analyze the results of complementation of 1 .5 g of fatty acids (.84 g EPA and 0.7 g DHA) in 13 children (aged 5-17 years) with autism also suffering from severe behavioral disorders, aggression, or self-harm. The results were measured according to the ABC (Aberrant Behavior Checklist) after 6 weeks.
Results: We observed
an advantage to the group supplemented with omega 3 fatty acid compared to placebo for aggression and stereotypies. Repeated measures ANOVA showed a superiority of the group supplemented with omega-3 relative to placebo for hyperactivity. No negative effects were noted in the 2 groups.
Conclusions The results of this study provide preliminary evidence that omega 3 supplementation may be effective treatment for autistic children.
